Navigating any form of grief can feel overwhelming; however, with the right support, guidance, and education, individuals can discover a pathway to healing.
VON Oxford Supportive Care Programs offer assistance for grief stemming from various circumstances, such as the death of someone, caregiving, serious illness diagnoses, and life transitions. Through education, connection, and compassion, our programs create a safe space for individuals to explore their emotions and learn effective coping mechanisms during the grieving process.
ALL Supportive Care programs are free-of-charge.
Community Hospice Visiting – The Hospice/Palliative Care Visiting Program offers free support by connecting volunteers with palliative patients in Oxford County. This volunteer-driven, non-medical service focuses on delivering friendly companionship and emotional support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers provide compassionate assistance through a listening ear, a warm presence, or a helping hand.
Caregiver Support - Caregiving is a rewarding yet emotionally challenging journey. At VON Oxford, we offer a compassionate environment to recognize both the joys and struggles of caregivers. Whether through one-on-one support or peer groups, we provide a judgment-free space for emotional processing and strength rediscovery, allowing caregivers to receive the care they deserve.
Individual Grief Support: Professional and Peer-to-Peer - Grief is as unique as the person experiencing it. One-to-one grief support sessions are scheduled on an individual basis. VON Oxford offers professional counselling* as well as peer-to-peer grief support offered by specially trained volunteers. Visits can take place in person, over the phone, or virtually. Registration is required.
In Good Company – VON In Good Company is a supportive community initiative that hosts relaxed gatherings for individuals dealing with caregiving, grief, or serious illnesses. It focuses on presence, companionship, and belonging through simple shared activities such as labyrinth walks, yoga for grief, sound journeys, expressive arts, journaling, café-style gatherings and more. These activities allow participants to connect personally and socially without pressure to share their stories or engage in structured therapy, fostering a comforting and understanding atmosphere.
Journey Through Grief - This is a six-week bereavement support program designed for adults aged 18 and over. Journey Through Grief aids participants in making positive life adjustments during their grieving process. The program offers valuable information, education, and coping techniques while fostering connections with others who are also experiencing grief. Multiple groups are conducted throughout the year in Oxford County, and registration is required to participate. Registration is required.
Kids & Teens Programs - VON Oxford offers a range of grief support options designed for children and teenagers facing various types of loss, including the death of someone in their life, knowing someone diagnosed with a serious illness, and major life transitions. Tailored activities help young people process emotions, develop coping strategies, and encourage open communication. Participants engage in discussions and activities that foster community, allowing them to share experiences and navigate grief together.
Regional Grief Support for Specific Death-Related Losses - We are pleased to offer four virtual open grief support groups for individuals grieving specific death-related losses, including-Death by Suicide, Addiction Related Death, Death of a Child, Medical Assistance in dying. Please contact us for information and registration.
Facilitated by specially trained volunteers. Our programs help participants develop strategies for coping and finding meaning in their grief.
